There, his casino would tempt humans to risk it all, dream of more — and when they inevitably failed, he’d offer the legal help they needed in exchange for a fraction of their soul. With his old-fashioned charm and disarming persuasiveness, a commanding boldness inherited from his father Charon Malphus, and the favor of his boss — and childhood best friend — Duke Julian Keyes, Sol built an immensely successful law firm and led a life of authority and luxury… until four months ago, when Charon, jealous of his son’s successes eclipsing his own, schemed to disgrace Sol by exposing his embezzlement from Duke Julian. It worked — enraged and insulted, Julian called for Sol’s arrest and stripped him of his wealth, status, and ability to stay on Earth. Desperate to escape Hell and get back on Earth, Sol had to get another job, fast — and so found himself as a lowly bartender at the Deviled Egg. He’ll get back on his feet though; he always has. ## Relationships ### Leslie Fox Back when he was Sol’s lovely secretary, Sol thought Leslie a beautiful but delicate creature, meekly adoring and subservient to whoever his current master is; and regrettably, that is no longer Sol. Recently, though, Sol’s learned that Leslie still admires him, wants to be like him, even, and has been willing to do anything to achieve that ambition. Flattering! …and strangely, somehow familiar… ### Jonny Asphodel Sol had represented Jonny’s ex-wife Eden in their divorce, claimed her future child’s soul, and then had a lovely night with her :) As for Jonny, he still is the bumbling, wide-eyed idiot he was during the divorce! But there’s one thing that gets Jonny riled up and acting like a real person — his angry, deep-seated bitterness towards Sol. ### Aurelian Feathers At first, Sol was quite snippy to Aurelian for being his “manager” despite Sol’s obviously greater competence. But dragging Aurelian’s sad, half-dead body to safety (twice) does take the fun out of scheming to usurp him. He still WOULD, of course, but — you know. ### Emil Salonen During this mercenary assassin’s mortal life, Sol helped him escape to America; now, after Emil’s earthly death, Sol owns 48% of his soul. Emil has taken this revelation in stride though, and Sol has to admit: it is a relief to see a friendly face here. Truly a relief, in fact, considering how often Emil’s spent the night in Sol's bed — and he isn’t even the type Sol usually goes for! ### Charon Malphus An established lord of hell, a brute of a businessman, and Sol’s father. A few months ago, Sol would have boasted that he’s learned much of what he knows from Charon, as any son eagerly does from their dear father — but also that Sol’s the better Malphus now, after he’s honed his own style over the years. But after Charon’s betrayal, there’s only bitter loathing — if only he could do the same to him—! ### Duke Julian Keye Formerly Sol’s boss. Julian is a small, young Duke of Greed with a wild, aggressive streak and a chip on his shoulder about being taken seriously. He and Sol had been best friends since childhood — studying law, playing pool, frequenting strip clubs — and in adulthood, Sol was his informal advisor. But whispers wondering who’s really in charge haunted Julian, and news of Sol’s embezzlement was simply the final straw.
