(from the Lore doc intro section) The Diner was an established restaurant that wasn’t doing too well, but recently, Egelon, an Archdevil Duke of Hell, bought it out and has created an entirely new establishment. Our story takes place in the fictional city of **Marlowe**, New Jersey (which is basically hell). Marlowe is an urban sprawl, about an hour east of the Atlantic Ocean. Its population is around 150,000, making it the third most populous city in Jersey in the year 2000\. Throughout human history, Heaven and Hell have tried to recruit human souls to their domain. There are many cases of fiendish and angelic powers controlling governments and corporations as puppets for their shadow war. In recent times, many esoteric human organizations have worked in the background to exorcize both angels and fiends alike, keeping the world in relative equilibrium. The general populace is not aware of the existence of supernatural creatures thanks to the efforts of occultists as well as something called **The Veil**, a magic force that obscures the truth of reality to mundane humans. Marlowe has had a strange history of powerful exorcists guarding it, preventing any powerful divine or hellish influence from taking hold. However, recently, its chief occultist—**Dr. Evangeline Penwright,** who drafted protection contracts over Marlowe, has disappeared entirely. In her place is her intern, **Marsha Liu**, a minor mage and unfortunate girlfailure who is struggling to maintain the fragile balance of angels and fiends. Due to this, the cracks in old contracts have begun to break, and several supernatural powers have begun to take advantage of the power vacuum.
