Session 50 - Leslie's confession

I'm assuming that I don't have enough strength in my tail to do that, so I'm imagining that I'm probably lunging for him. KRIS Okay, I guess that would be a Skirmish role. LESLIE Yeah… and I would like to use Lust's Envoy to gain +1 to Skirmish rolls for the next in-world 30 minutes. KRIS Oh… oh boy, okay… LESLIE Which will be balanced out by my -1 forward, so it's just a flat Skirmish. … …Okay, well, that was a 5. (deep sigh) KRIS Okay, that's, uh… that’s pretty bad. That’s a failure on a Skirmish. Um, let's see. You run over to try and tackle Dmitriy in Emil's body, and get tangled up in this— LESLIE Wait, maybe— KRIS Do you want to try to use an ability? LESLIE Yeah, I— if you have, like, an idea for what could happen, I'll go along with it, but otherwise, I think I… …Actually, let's play this out. I might do something to mitigate it afterwards. KRIS Okay. You try to tackle Dmitriy-Emil. As soon as you grasp onto him, there's this flare of Heavenly light that starts to burn at you. Seems like Dmitriy is really trying to call in as much Heavenly power as he can to kill Ivan, and now it's hurting you, Leslie. So… give me an Act Under Pressure roll, I guess, if you are going to deal with this. This Heavenly energy. LESLIE (sigh) Okay… I think… KRIS Or… you do have Squeeze through the Cracks! LESLIE Yeah, no, I'm wondering— that is what I wanted to use. Can that apply to this situation? KRIS Yeah! I mean, there are a couple people you can betray right now! LESLIE Yeah, I think… I would like to use Squeeze through the Cracks. And I would like Emil to take the fall. KRIS What essentially is going to happen is: as you start getting burned by this Heavenly power… …Let's see, how does this physically take place? I think maybe it's just— somehow, the magic is going to redirect itself towards Emil's body, which is both a vessel for Dmitriy and Emil. Right? I'm trying to figure out how this would look… I think you push through and are able to tackle Dmitriy. And your Devil side just flares up to kind of bolster— maybe there's a bit of Hellfire that appears. You generally don't specialize in Hellfire magic, but there is— your horns extend a bit more, your tail lengthens, I think you look a little bit more like your form back in Hell with Gloriosa. Your old form. And you try to just push back at the Heavenly magic that's hitting you. And now, Emil: give me an Act Under Pressure instead, as this consequence pushes onto you. Table talk omitted; Emil gets a partial success on Act Under Pressure. We discuss different possible ways Leslie and Emil’s abilities could distribute Stress between them, and ultimately decide Leslie will take the Stress cost of Squeeze through the Cracks and burn out while Emil takes a different consequence. EMIL I will choose to lose control of my magic. KRIS Okay, lose control of your magic. …Let's see. As this is all happening, you see Leslie tackle Dmitriy. Hellfire and Holy Fire start counteracting each other as Dmitriy is trying to kill Ivan. Leslie is in the mix, and as the magic is hitting each other, your soul is dislocated from your body and you feel yourself just start getting dragged down towards Hell. You are gonna go down to the first floor. EMIL Okay… KRIS Your body feels like it's being pulled by hands from the River of Wrath. I think you make it down here right as Isha's, like— actually, I guess Isha would have been dropped down and started trying to head back up before you got down here. I think… give me a Luck roll, 2D6. If you fail, Isha will not have been here in time. EMIL Okay, it's a 7. KRIS 7. You fall into this first floor and you feel like these hands are still pulling you halfway through into the ground, into, like, the basement, as you see Isha is up on these stairs, running up, trying to get to the spa. The door’s open. You can see her running. So you might be able to catch her attention. EMIL Yeah, I'm going to shout to her. Although I’m— I'm not sure what she can do in this situation, but I will try anyway, I guess. KRIS Yeah, you start shouting. Isha stops on the stairs and starts running back towards you and she’s— ISHA Emil! Emil! What— what's— what happened?! KRIS And she's trying to get to you before these Hellish souls bring you below the first floor. Back upstairs: Leslie, you are grappling Dmitriy, and I think you're both at a standstill. He's starting to loosen his grip on Ivan and Ivan is prying himself free. Dmitriy is still burning with holy magic. Table talk omitted; Leslie decides to take 3 burnout consequences. KRIS This holy magic emanating from Dmitriy's power burns through you, Leslie, but you manage to pry him off of Ivan. And this Emil staggers as your Hellfire is hitting him as well. You, I think, fall to your knees; your legs are weak like jello as there are these holy burns all over you. And I think you watch as Ivan once again grabs Emil— Emil's body, and wrenches out a second soul. LESLIE … KRIS This time, Emil's body fully falls over. And you see Dmitriy — this vision of Dmitriy — get pulled away, out of Emil's body. LESLIE …Okay. I'm… looking… at him. Is he looking at me? KRIS Dmitriy is blurring. He's not really fully corporeal, now that he's a soul again. And Gloriosa is quickly trying to wrangle that soul as Ivan sighs, crouches down, and starts whispering something to Emil's body once more. But I think you are out of it for the rest of the scene — whether you're knocked out, or just, like, on the ground bleeding. LESLIE …Yeah. KRIS Gloriosa starts kind of pulling Dmitriy back, but then sees you and she rushes to your side, and is like: GLORIOSA Hey, hey, it's okay! Y-you’re not— stay with me, okay? LESLIE … … …Please get out of here. GLORIOSA (voice quivering) Y-you're not going yet, okay? I just found you. I don't want to lose you again. You're okay! LESLIE Please get out of here. KRIS She starts lifting you up. GLORIOSA We can get you to a medic, we can get you healed up and patched up. We’re all going! LESLIE Don't— I— I'm going to slow you down. Clearly something is— I'll be fine, my coworkers are here, I’ll— KRIS She's trying to help you to your feet so she can get you out of here. GLORIOSA I'm not leaving you, Fox. I— these past few years, I— (voice breaking) —need you by my side…! I thought I’d lost you, I thought you’d died— you almost died again! Or— not again, but— we need to get out of here, okay? LESLIE … … You— GLORIOSA Come on, we can get out of this together this time! LESLIE You don't… owe me anything. Don't… save me. GLORIOSA I love you! Why would I leave you here?! LESLIE … Because— Because I— Because I left you. All right? KRIS Ivan is calling over to Gloriosa— IVAN We need to go. KRIS —but Gloriosa stops. GLORIOSA …What? No, what are you talking… Shut up. You're— o-okay, you're— Heaven's magic is just making you— LESLIE It was— GLORIOSA Yeah, you left, but I— I was dead, it's— I was being sent to an execution. You got away. That's okay! LESLIE And it was my fault. GLORIOSA … What? What are you talking about? LESLIE It wasn't— it— It wasn't Oleander's idea to sell all of you out, it was mine. All right? And I— I— I— GLORIOSA … LESLIE (voice breaking) I didn't know… that would happen, I didn't know what would happen, but I— I mean, that was stupid, wasn't it? I should have! So I think you should leave me. GLORIOSA … …the fuck did you say…? You— No. No, no, no, you're lying, Fox. LESLIE He's just… looking at her. KRIS She's kind of, like, letting go of you and standing up and looking down at you. Or— I guess she's helped you to your feet, but she releases her hands. LESLIE What did you see in the mirror? GLORIOSA What the fuck are you talking about? LESLIE You looked at it, didn't you? GLORIOSA Yeah, I mean, I saw— I saw Oleander, he was— I don't know! Of course you're gonna see him, he's— he’s— what are you talking about? LESLIE … I wanted… to leave. And I had— I had our— I had… my ticket… out. And you took it, and you wasted it, and I was angry— GLORIOSA Wh— LESLIE —and so I— GLORIOSA What—? I— wasted it? I— (voice rising) I was tortured! I was sent to jail to die! KRIS And she’ll get, like, up in your face, moving towards you. GLORIOSA (hysterically) You— you—! You're the one who gave me up to— you gave all of us—! I— This is because of the job?! Because I didn't do what you wanted?! Because I didn't pander to your fucking ways?! I— I went on that job and I didn't kill anyone. I got it done. LESLIE What…? GLORIOSA Just like you wanted! LESLIE What— What are you talking about? You failed! GLORIOSA No! I— I got the artifact, I was bringing it back to Oleander! He— LESLIE W-wait— GLORIOSA (laughing incredulously) He crossed you! Ammolirion, he— he played you! He— —and you wanted this. You wanted me to die! Yeah! LESLIE I— GLORIOSA After everything we've been through. We were partners! LESLIE I— GLORIOSA He knew things that he shouldn't have even known…! LESLIE … … (quietly, quivering) Information was the only thing I had, and I used it. And— and— and— (voice rising) And you know, it worked! I— I— I— I thought that it would, and it… it did—! I'm— GLORIOSA (laughing) LESLIE (hysterically) I'm up here, right? And I got everything I wanted! GLORIOSA I— I said I loved you! LESLIE … GLORIOSA You…! Y— you're nothing! You're nothing, you can't love anyone! You don't have anything within you to— to— you're nothing! LESLIE … GLORIOSA …I will tear you apart and drag you down to Hell, you betrayer, you Judas—! KRIS And she will lunge for you, claws bared. LESLIE I'm… I'm gonna take it. KRIS That's where we’ll end our session.
